Sky Business has appointed David Rey as its new managing director. Rey takes over from Iain Holden at a time when its commercial business is in the public eye following a series of legal rulings over the availability of foreign satellite channels in pubs.
Sky said Rey’s remit would be to continue to evolve pricing for pubs and clubs, as well as growing penetration for Wi-Fi, 3D and HD. “Following the recent clarification on the use of foreign satellite services, Sky Business is now entering a new phase and I’m delighted that David will be on board to build even closer relationships with our commercial customers,” said Sky COO Mike Darcey.
Last week, Portsmouth landlady Karen Murphy won her appeal to use a Greek-issued satellite decoder, but an earlier ruling said that interstitials used in the transmission belonged to the Premier League, ruling out any public screening.
Rey re-joins Sky where he was Commercial Director up until 2009. In the intervening years he has held the positions of chief operating officer for Discovery Networks Europe and chief business officer at News International. He will begin his new role on March 5 and report to Darcey.
