The Greek telecom market is set for a period of consolidation, prompted by the serious economic crisis currently gripping the country.
According to Ekathimerini, negotiations have already taken place or a continuing between several parties including Wind and Forthnet.
The latter is a long-established ISP and entered the pay-TV market in 2008 through the acquisition of Netmed, which owns the Nova DTH platforms in both Greece and Cyprus.
Should it merge with Wind – the two held unsuccessful talks last summer but are now speaking again, with a view to a share exchange rather than cash deal – they would create a company with over 300,000 pay-TV subscribers.
Negotiations have also taken place between Forthnet and Hellas on Line (HOL).
They have debts of around €350 million and €200 million respectively and are facing pressure from their creditors.
Also in the offing is a possible deal between Wind and Vodafone.
