Swisscom is finding success for its IPTV product in its domestic market, but its investment in the Italian broadband provider Fastweb is less sound.
Announcing its annual results, Swisscom said the number of subscribers to Swisscom TV has risen by 44.4% to 608,000 year-on-year, with 52,000 new TV customers acquired in the fourth quarter of 2011 alone.
TV is being deployed as a marketing tool in Italy, where the broadband internet and satellite TV package run with Sky Italia has gained 71,000 customers in its first year of operation, including 34,000 in the fourth quarter.
However, Fastweb’s net revenue fell by 7.1% or €134 million to €1,746 million year-on-year. This despite the reduction of offers including satellite set-tops. Price pressures have also forced a 10% decline in customer revenues.
