Revamp for MTV HD

February 10, 2012 11.06 Europe/London By Julian Clover

MTV is rebranding its high definition channel MTVNHD as MTV Live.

At the same time the main MTV channel will move to the Entertainment section of the Sky EPG, placing it at 126 for both high definition (HD) and standard definition (SD) audiences. The move will take place on February 13.

From April 23, the new MTV Live will be available in both SD and HD, taking channel 358 where MTVNHD currently sits for HD viewers only.

The majority of channels on Sky have dual numbering with HD and SD viewers presented with the appropriate version of a channel.

David Lynn, managing director, Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) UK, Australia, Hungary and Russia, and EVP, International Content Distribution said: “Following MTV’s successful move to the Sky entertainment pack last February, which resulted in a stellar 12 months of strong ratings and standout programming, we look forward to furthering our commitment to enriching our audience’s viewing experience by offering MTV in High Definition – in addition to MTV Live, which will now be available to both SD and HD audiences for the first time ever. Both of these moves support our long-term commitment to developing, packaging and delivering the highest-quality, music and creative content across all platforms.”

MTV Live HD showcases the best of MTV’s live music performances, archive footage and documentaries from around the world. The channel is seen in more than 8 million homes in 30 countries in Europe, Australia, Latin America and in Middle East.
