Price increases and a rise in hardware sales helped Canal Digital maintain revenues amid continued subscriber falls.
DTH subscribers fell by 8,000 to 965,000 – an improvement of sorts on the 27,000 lost in Q4 2010. Cable subscribers also fell, but this was largely related to the sale of Canal Digital’s Danish cable business to Stofa and the Swedish cable business to Telenor Sweden.
There remains speculation that Telenor might also sell Canal Digital’s DTH operations.
The EBITDA margin within the Nordic platform’s DTH business increased by 5 percentage points, the result of reduced transmission costs. It was of course the Satellite Broadcasting division that took the hit for the fee reductions from its broadcast sister, though this was more than compensated for by higher revenues from its Central & East Europe business.
Operating profit of NOK 232m were an improvement for Telenor Broadcast on NOK 202m in 2011. Annual profits improved to NOK1,154m from NOK957m.
