The Polish Chamber of Information Technology and Telecommunications (PIIT) have spoken out against draft legislation that would see residential buildings equipped with reception equipment for digital terrestrial TV and radio services.
According to Gazeta Prawna, PIIT believe such a move, undertaken on a mandatory basis, would have a detrimental effect on the country’s DTH market.
Although there are currently around 6 million homes receiving satellite TV services in Poland, many occupiers of high-rise apartments are already forbidden to install reception equipment.
PIIT’s opinions on the draft legislation have already been passed on to the Ministry of Administration and Digitisation.
In a separate development, the Polish Sejm (parliament) has approved the appointment of Magdalena Gaj as the new president of the Office of Electronic Communication (UKE).
