Competition in the online VOD market is set to intensify in the Czech Republic, with MTG-backed Prima TV, one of the country’s top two commercial broadcasters, preparing to launch a new service.
E15 reports that it will be named PrimaPlay.cz and is likely to make its debut at the end of next month, with details of the content it will offer being made public in the next few days.
Prima TV already operates an on demand service through Seznam.cz.
The news comes as CME has closed a VOD service named Cinema.cz, though it still retains Voyo.cz, for which it has high expectations, with the target of 100,000 subscribers by the end of this year.
J&T-owned Topfun Media is also set to become what some have described as the Czech Netflix.
Separately, speaking exclusively to HN, CME head Adrian Sarbu said that the company plans to launch more pay channels.
The ad market is expected to grow in the Czech Republic this year.
