History has recorded its highest ever year in 2011 with the average number of adults watching increasing by 27%.
The second half of the year was particularly strong with the A+E Networks UK factual channel growing its adult audience by 34% compared to the same period in 2010. History moved up 21 places in the table of most-viewed channels.
Tom Davidson, managing director at A+E Networks UK commented: “History had an incredible 2011, by far its best performance ever and is set to continue that momentum in 2012. We have ambitious plans for History and our channel portfolio and will continue to invest in compelling content that informs and entertains.”
The growth is attributed in part to the addition of more factual entertainment shows in addition to the core history programming.
A+E Networks UK is a joint venture between A+E Networks and BSkyB. History first launched in the UK, as The History Channel, on November 1, 1995.
