BT Vision is to redesign its IPTV service to offer a more personalised experience and to include elements of social media.
A report in the Financial Times said BT Vision would bring in greater interactivity with its video on demand library.
There was no mention of Microsoft Mediaroom, the middleware on which the IPTV platform has been built. The move will come ahead of the launch of YouView, the cross-telco and broadcaster collaboration, slated for launch later this year.
Social media is clearly one of the pay-TV sector’s New Year resolutions, BSkyB last week announcing a tie-up with Anthony Rose’s Zeebox.
In Q3 2011. BT Vision increased its installed base to 639,000, its best quarter in more than two years.
BT Vision customers receive a standard definition Freeview PVR, after which with the exception of the BBC iPlayer the remainder of the available content is pay, either through subscription packages or on demand.
However, over and above the on demand service itself there is little interactivity and none of the Mediaroom-touted features such as photograph storage, personal libraries, etc.
