Fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) continues to grow impressively in Spain, with the number of connections in November 2011 being – at 158,204 – 220% more than a year earlier.
According to data published by the regulator CMT, the lion’s share of the total (150,080) were operated by the incumbent telco Telefónica, which also accounted for 49.40% of the fixed broadband market as a whole.
This compared to the 19.52% claimed by cable operators and 31.08% by other companies.
However, Telefónica lost 3,200 subscribers during the month of November while cable operators gained 8,530 and other companies 42,460.
The total number of DSL connections in November stood at 8,893,354 (+3.9% up year-on-year), with Telefónica accounting for 5,335,190 (-4.1%) of the total.
The number of cable modems stood at 2.052,502 (+5.5% year-on-year).
