Rovi has unveiled TotalGuide G2, its second-generation content discovery and access solution for consumer electronics manufacturers. The newly designed solution is designed to help manufacturers differentiate their product range and encourage consumers to use paid for offerings within the smart TV environment.
TotalGuide G2 will bring together a range of Rovi technologies and services such as multimedia rich and deeply descriptive entertainment data, personalised search and recommendations, multi-source video access and control, and interactive advertising.
Recognising a developing trend among service providers TotalGuide G2 will use social media to enhance discovery. In a separate announcement Rovi said third-party developers can now use Rovi Data as an easy way to add Tweets directly from verified accounts into their entertainment apps, websites, products, and services.
“TotalGuide G2 allows a much faster time to market and much more customisation of the guide,” Rovi’s chief evangelist, told Broadband TV News. “The one thing we hear over and over again is that we don’t want our guide to look like our competitor’s product, so there will be more customisation, and do it faster. The new G2 version is a lot more skinable and uses a lot of the modern technologies for real time mock up such as Adobe Air and CE-HTML”.
The existing TotalGuide can be found on products manufactured by Samsung, Sony, Panasonic and Toshiba, amongst others.
