Concerns are being raised in Estonia over the country’s plan to switch entirely to digital broadcasting by September 12 this year.
Speaking to the local public broadcaster ERR and quoted by AKTR, executives from Teleset and STV, two of Estonia’s leading cable operators, said that while their companies and the cable industry in general were technically ready for the transition, the general public was not.
Although the EU has set 2020 as the deadline for the complete transition to digital broadcasting, Estonia passed an electronic communications law last year bringing its own target date forward to September 2012.
After that date, cable operators will no longer be able to offer analogue services.
