Protests are growing in Poland over the failure of the channel TV Trwam to secure carriage on the country’s first DTT multiplex.
According to Rzeczpospolita, the right-of-centre Law and Justice Party (PiS) and recently launched political grouping Solidarna Polska (SP) are of the view that this represents a challenge to free speech.
As a result, they are appealing to various bodies and – in the case of PiS – have also called for amendments to the telecom law granting every analogue channel the right to broadcast digitally.
TV Trwam was founded by Father Tadeusz Rydzyk in 2003 and is owned by his Lux Veritatis Foundation.
Poland’s first DTT multiplex has been allocated by the public broadcaster TVP’s three main channels (TVP1, TVP2 and TVP Info) and four new commercial channels (Polo TV, Eska TV, ATM Rozrywka TV and U-TV).
