The funding of public broadcasting in Poland has again found itself in the spotlight with the news that 65% of TV owners avoid paying receiver licence fees.
Quoting a report from the Association of Public Media Employers (ZPMP), Wirtualne Media says that there are currently around 14.3 million TV sets in use in the country.
However, only 4.2 million of over 13 million homes have registered ownership of a TV set and of these only 1.2 million pay receiver licence fees.
The latter are amongst the cheapest in Europe, costing only around €45 a year.
Worryingly, the level of avoidance is rising, the revenues from receiver licence fees this year projected to be around 15% less than in 2011.
