Plans for Com Hem to acquire the Swedish cable TV interests of Canal Digital have been abandoned.
It follows the November 24th decision by the competition authority (Konkurrensverket, KKV) that came out against the purchase. On Tuesday Com Hem wrote to the authority, arguing that because the 2006 acquisition by Com Hem of UPC’s Swedish cable interests, this too given the green light. The cablenet also said the KKV should have looked at the market as a whole, including DTH, DTT, and particularly IPTV, rather than the cable market alone.
Canal Digital has confirmed the transaction will no longer proceed with the transaction. Instead it will be sold to sister company Telenor Sweden.
Last month, in a near-reversal of a previous deal cablenet Stofa purchased part of Canal Digital’s Danish cable business.
