Screen has announced the acquisition of the On Screen Publishing connected TV deployment and service management solution.
Rebranded as ScreenConnect, the product will remain in the hands of its creator Gordon Maynard, who joins Screen as product manager, connected TV. Maynard was part of the team that developed Teletext for ITV and Channel 4.
“The sheer number of connected TV platforms and the fact that an application has to be written for each one is driving many companies away from the market,” said Maynard. “The breadth of proprietary and standard based platforms such as MHEG-IC, MHP and the emerging HbbTV has generated a competitive market and led to the application of fragmented technology.”
Perhaps better known as Screen Subtitling Systems, Screen also acquired SysMedia in October.
