Dutch digital TV penetration reached 81% on September 30, according to GfK Research, despite a 15% drop in the total CE market in Holland.
Due to the economic situation, Dutch consumers are cautious when it comes to buying entertainment electronics. However, some segments of the market still show growth, notably 3D connected TVs, docking stations and streaming audio devices.
GfK Retail and Technology said the number of digital TV homes grew 2%, from 79% on June 30 till 81% at the end of September. The figures were published in the Digital TV Monitor of the iMMovator Cross Media Network.
Smartphones, tablets and portable gaming devices remain very popular, with a total of 4.2 million units expected to be sold during all of 2011. During the first nine months of the year, sales of docking stations grew 22%, while streaming audio products grew by 42%.
The research firm also noted a swing from high street towards online sales. In 2011, around 21% of all CE sales will be made online, compared with 18% in 2010 and 15% in 2009.
GfK Intomart has also started research into the online video markets, including Electronic Sell Trough, VOD and streaming services. The first results of the new research will be published in early 2012.
