Smartclip, Accedo cooperate for in-gaming video advertising

December 13, 2011 10.00 Europe/London By Robert Briel

Smartclip, a specialist for video advertising, and Accedo, an enabler of Smart TV and IPTV applications, have signed a European-wide partnership agreement for the integration of pre roll video ads into Funspot, a gaming application for smart TVs.

Smartclip will start monetising the Funspot games immediately with in-gaming pre-rolls in all major European markets, including the Nordics, UK, Germany, France, Italy and Spain.

Funspot covers a wide range of casual games including board, arcade, strategy and puzzles, which are all designed to work well in a living room setting, and address a diverse audience. The games are already available on all major smart TV sets and set-top boxes such as Samsung, Philips, LG, Panasonic and Roku.

In addition to a proprietary technology solution for the integration of video ads into smart TV platforms, called UTAI 2.0, Smartclip has intrinsic knowledge of the advertising market in the different European markets and has its own department focusing exclusively on in-gaming video ads, which is an additional asset for monetising the Funspot set of games.

“We are extremely pleased to add Funspot to our portfolio of high traffic apps for smart TVs”, said Shirlene Chandrapal, VP, connected TV, Smartclip. “Well thought out and international deployable apps like Funspot propel smart TVs onto every consumer’s wish list and add further traction to the already booming market for Smart TVs. We see this agreement as an important part of our overall strategy and a confirmation that we are on the right track: gaming connects people across national boundaries and aggregates all target groups. Apps like these will accelerate advertisers’ interest in ad server-based video ads for TV.”

Michael Lantz, CEO at Accedo commented: “We are happy to have smartclip as a partner for the monetization of our Funspot App. Not only do our colleagues at smartclip understand and provide easy solutions for the technical aspect of the integration, but more importantly, they have excellent sales teams on the ground in all European markets. This is a tremendous advantage for us, as Funspot is a truly international game service and smartclip is a good partner for us to secure monetisation on a European level.”
