The BBC has introduced a new iPlayer app for the iPhone and iPod touch. It follows 1.2 million downloads for its iPad and 1.5 million downloads for its Android apps.
At the same time 3G streaming has been brought in across all Apple devices.
In October alone 16.5 million programmes were streamed on mobile devices, representing a 129% increase on the same period in 2010.
The app is compatible with iOS 4.3 and above and, significantly, those devices running iOS 5 and above can stream content to Apple TV via the AirPlay system.
There is also an upgrade for the Apple iPad and a new version for Android is promised for early in the new year. By then the BBC hopes to have resolved issues involving video playback and 3G streaming.
