Ericsson TV ahead in tough year

December 9, 2011 11.47 Europe/London By Julian Clover

Ericsson TV boss Staffan Pehrson says the company has been able to deliver growth in a difficult 12 months.

“It’s been a tough year if you look at the market. In Ericsson in TV we have an established business that is running well, and in this sort of climate an established business feels the pain, but that part is going well for us. Then we have an emerging business that is building a multiscreen platform for us, where content and format is exploding, and we’re sitting right there in the middle.”

Pehrson said the multiscreen platform business was gaining ground, and while admitting that it might have been better were the economy been on the up, he was confident that Ericsson remained well ahead of it competiors.

“We believe firmly that by 2020 we will have 50 billion devices connected and out of these 15 billion will be video capable,” said Pehrson. “If you have to understand that the major thing is to tie it altogether”.

Earlier this week Ericsson announced the first publically declared deployment of its Media Delivery Network that is being rolled out by Indian satcaster Tata Sky.
