During the past few years around €1 billion was invested in connecting 1 million homes to glass fibre networks, according to the just published Glasmonitor 2012 report.
The figures of the Dutch market were compiled by Stratix Consulting on behalf of the Fiber-to-the-Home (FttH) Platform Nederland, who published the report.
According to the Platform, FttH networks are mainly found in small and medium-sized towns. Also, the number of service providers on the nets has grown.
This growth has resulted in a strong demand for new jobs. On the other hand, the report notes that there are no real innovations with regards to the TV services and social services.
Although one million homes are now connected to glass fibre, not all households take out a subscription. The actual number of homes taking a service over the FttH network is not published.
The Platform has also put an up-to-date map of the roll-out online. The FttH penetration map will be updated every six months.
