The transition to digital broadcasting in Belarus is running into difficulties.
According to AKTR and Naviny, the problems stem from the high cost of reception equipment, with digital set-top boxes typically costing around BYR450,000-600,000 (€39- 52) each.
As a result, only 20,000 were sold in the first 11 months of this year.
Belarus is due to complete the transition to digital broadcasting in 2015 and at present a single multiplex carrying eight channels reaches 94.45% of the population.
The sale of TV sets without DTT tuners will be banned from 2013.
