DIGITAL TV SUMMIT – 2011. The rollout of connected TVs is one of the trends that will transform OTT video, according to Niall Curran, COO Chellomedia.
Speaking in a keynote entitled Future channel revenue streams and distribution models, he added that in OTT will become mainstream in Eastern Europe 2-3 years after Western Europe, “given broadband adoption and the TV replacement process.”
Curran also listed Chellomedia’s priorities as “support the TV Everywhere and On demand innovation of our distribution partners; be present where our viewers want their TV brands, reinforcing the TV offer; and support and follow the economies of the pay-TV sector as it develops.”
Chellomedia is the content division of Liberty Global and, according to Curran, makes 99% of its revenues from the pay-TV industry.
Cable accounts for 45% of its client base, DTH 25%, mixed platforms 20% and IPTV 10%.
Curran said he envisaged OTT pay platforms also joining the list in the future, claiming a possible share of 10%.
