New European film channel launches

November 18, 2011 08.12 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

Film Europe Channel, the first pay-TV channel dedicated solely to European cinema, has made its debut in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

Distributed in SD by Astra at 23.5 degrees East with a HD option using fibre-optic cable, it will show up to 500 European films a year in their original version with subtitles.

Commercial-free, Film Europe Channel will be on air for 24 hours daily and include productions from almost all 50 countries in greater Europe.

In the Czech Republic and Slovakia, the project partners are the DTH platform Skylink/M7 Group brand and Slovak Telecom, which will be the exclusive partner at the beginning for IPTV.

The latter will include the channel as part of its satellite package and films from Film Europe’s film distribution in the Magio VOD service.

Film Europe Channel is operated by Film Europe Media Company, which was founded and is headed by Ivan Hronec, and will eventually be expanded to other countries.
