The Hungarian pay-DTT service MinDig TV Extra continues to grow in popularity but still accounts for a tiny percentage of the country’s digital TV market.
Data published by the regulator NMHH shows that as of September the service, which is operated by the national transmission company Antenna Hungária, had 37,787 subscribers.
This represented a 1.2% share of a digital TV market, regardless of technology, in which UPC claimed top spot (26.1%), followed by Digi (23.2%) and T-Home (21.8%).
UPC had a more pronounced lead in the wired broadcasting sector with 27.8%, followed by T-Home (19.0%) and Digi (15.2%), while in the wireless broadcasting sector Digi was the dominant player (42.2%), ahead of T-Home (28.6%) and UPC Direct (22.0%).
The total number of digital cable and IPTV subscriptions in Hungary in September stood at 649,282, based on the 10 leading players, while the DTH and MMDS market had a total of 905,858 subscribers.
Hungary is one of the few countries in CEE to have a pay-DTT service.
