BT has announced the appointment of Alex Green as TV commercial and product director to help develop the telco’s TV offering, including its role in the troubled hybrid project YouView.
Green joins from Virgin Media, where his role as was executive director, commercial, TV and online included the implementation of TiVo. Green, who takes over from the promoted Andy Baker, will not take up his new job until 2012.
Gavin Patterson, chief executive, BT Retail, commented: “Alex has an excellent reputation and track record within the industry and he joins BT at a pivotal moment for our future television services. He has direct experience with Virgin Media of launching their next generation TV service, which will be a huge asset to BT as we embark on the transformation of our own TV services in the next year.”
BT’s current TV offering, BT Vision, relies heavily on DTT content taken from Freeview. Although using Microsoft’s Mediaroom it has little of the functionality demonstrated as part of the middleware.
