Telefonica reports 83,000 Alice TV homes

November 13, 2011 08.08 Europe/London By Robert Briel

Telefonica has reported that its German subsidiary O2 had 83,000 customers to its Alice IPTV service on September 30, 2011.

The operator now has a total of 2,603,000 DSL customers, so just 3% of those are buying the IPTV service. The number is up 15,000 from 68,000 on September 30, 2010, representing a growth of 15%.

O2’s IPTV service is the former Hansenet and is available in 150 German cities and their surrounding communities. Technical reach is about 10 million homes.

Of the other two IPTV providers in the country, Vodafone reported just 34,000 subscibers to its hybird TV service, which combines analogue, cable, digital satellite and IPTV.

Deutsche Telekom’s Entertain service reported 1.375 million subscribers and is by far the most successful IPTV platform in the country.
