Cable networks in Switzerland recorded growth in all digital services during the third quarter of this year, according to the cable association Swisscable.
Digital cable TV grew by 299,400 homes or 42% during the 12 months before September 30, 2011. The total number of digital TV homes in the country stood at 1,014,000, a penetration of 36% of all cable homes, at the end of September.
“An important reason for this growth is the fact that the switch to digital cable TV is very easy today,” said Claudia Bolla-Vincenz, managing director of Swisscable. “The basic digital service comes for free and can be received without additional equipment with newer TV sets.” [Thanks to mandatory CI for all cable receivers]
The number of homes with cable internet grew from 778,100 to 857,100 (+10%), while cable telephony rose from 387,400 homes to 468,600 (+21%).
