PIKE 2011 – POZNAN. Polsat plans to compete on a local level in Poland with the likes of Google once Zygmunt Solorz-Zak acquires Polkomtel, the operator of the Plus mobile network.
Speaking in a panel discussion entitled Investments vs mergers and acquisitions, the Polsat founder and majority shareholder said that by acquiring Polkomtel Polsat would quickly be able to offer a range of new multimedia services.
Solorz-Zak declared himself to be “fascinated with LTE technology” and believes its deployment will constitute “a revolution” and change everyone’s lives.
In practical terms, Polsat has built 600 transmitters in the last year and a half and through Polkomtel will have access to several thousand more.
The acquisition of Polkomtel nevertheless still requires the approval of the competition authority UOKiK, and its president Malgorzata Krasnodebska-Tomkiel said that while not wishing to comment specifically about the case a decision would soon be announced.
