Polish DTT/TVN sale come under spotlight

October 18, 2011 11.39 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

PIKE 2011 – POZNAN. A new timetable for the transition to digital broadcasting in Poland has been made public for the first time by TVN board member Tomasz Berezowski.

Speaking in what was arguably the most high-powered panel discussion at this year’s PIKE conference, he also confirmed – albeit indirectly – that both Time Warner and Vivendi are still in the running to buy a majority stake in TVN.

Berezowski revealed that ASO would take place in Poznan, this year’s conference host city, in November 2012 and in Warsaw in March 2013, ahead of the national switch off date of July 31, 2013.

Commenting on the sale of TVN, he said that a change in ownership was unlikely to have a major effect on the market.

However, there will have to be a decision taken on the company’s emphasis of being a pay-TV operator or content producer.

Przemyslaw Kurczewski, chairman of the board at EmiTel, meanwhile said that Poland’s second DTT multiplex would be fully up and running by the end of this year and the first before Euro 2012.
