PIKE 2011 – POZNAN. Connected TVs are becoming increasingly popular in Poland and there are likely to be up to one million sets deployed in the country by the end of this year.
According to Pawel Tutka, vice president of 4vod.tv, there were a total of 1.9 million TV sets sold in 2010, of which 15% were connected TVs.
Earlier this year, 20% of all sales were connected TVs and by the end of this year the figure will be running at 35%.
To date, around 21 apps had been created specially for the Polish market and it was interesting to note that two of them – AXN and ipla – were already on PS3.
Tutka added that unofficially it is expected that up to 10 more locally produced apps will become available in Poland by the end of this year.
He also said that there is tremendous potential for connected TVs in Poland given the large number of homes already receiving digital TV services.
UPC Polska and Vectra, the two leading providers, alone had 437,800 and 350,000 subscribers respectively.
