The Russian pay-TV operator Rikor TV has commercially launched what it is described as the country’s first personal interactive television.
Quoted by AKTR and ComNews, the company’s president Armen Margaryan said it has been developed with Sony Toshiba IBM Alliance (STI) processors and is already being offered to subscribers of Raduga-Internet.
The technology allows viewers to create a ‘personal channel’ through set-top boxes that employ multiple data transmission technologies and a have hard drive allowing for 120 hours of recording.
The service, which is known as Aktiv TV, will be available through RIKOR HD IVR multifunctional digital subscriber TV receivers for cable and DTH reception, designed and manufactured in Russia and cost around R8,500 (€172.9) each.
The installation charge will be R2,300, after which a monthly fee around R85, giving access to a free package of 30 TV channels, will be payable.
Customers will also be able to buy specially designed receivers that combine to tuners, one for internet and one for satellite TV.
