18.98 million German households now have digital television, according to the latest figures from AGF/GfK-Fernsehforschung. This translates into a reach of 52.9%.
The process of digitisation is moving rapidly with 49.6% of the households being digital on June 1, 2011.
German satellite households need to go digital before the end of April, 2012, when all analogue DTH transmissions will end.
At the moment, a big campaign is under way to convince German DTH viewers to switch to digital before it is too late. Cable subscribers are not affected, as all cable operators will continue to distribute a basic tier in analogue for the time being.
