New Amazon Kindle Fire features videos

September 29, 2011 09.19 Europe/London By Robert Briel

VIDEO. Over 100,000 movies and TV shows from Amazon Instant Video are available on the new Kindle Fire tablet, turning the new device into a potential competitor to the Apple iPad and other, more expensive tablets.

The videos are available to stream or download, purchase or rent for Amazon Prime members. Kindle Fire comes with one free month of Amazon Prime.

Priced at $199 (€146), the Kindle Fire is set to compete with the Apple iPad. Although smaller in size, only available with Wi-Fi connectivity, the huge price difference may make the Amazon device a formidable competitor.

The Amazon content also includes over one million e-Books as well as over 17 million songs from Amazon MP3, 100 exclusive graphic novels and hundreds of magazines and newspapers.

Kindle Fire runs on Android, so all the most popular Android apps and games, such as Angry Birds, Plants vs. Zombies, Cut the Rope are Amazon-tested and should run on the device.

Amazon Whispersync is now also available for Movies & TV. The Whispersync technology automatically synchronises the Kindle library, last page read, bookmarks, notes, and highlights across the widest range of devices and platforms. With the introduction of Kindle Fire, Amazon is expanding this technology to include video. Start streaming a movie on the Kindle Fire, and when the viewer get home, he or she can resume streaming right where they left off on their TV.

The device comes registered to the user’s Amazon account to support purchases and free storage on the Amazon Cloud, to back up all content. The Kindle Fire is available now for pre-order in the US and will ship from November 15.
