Netflix is to start streaming popular TV shows from Discovery Communications following an agreement between the two parties.
According to an agency report, the two-year deal, with the option of a third year, is limited to material from previous seasons and will only allow Netflix subscribers in the US to view the TV shows.
Significantly, it does not include content from Oprah Winfrey’s OWN Network, in which Discovery Communications holds a 50% stake.
The financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed.
Earlier this week it was announced that Netflix is splitting into two separate entities.
While the streaming part of the business will remain named Netflix, the DVD part will be called Qwikster.
