Spain saw a huge reduction in its mobile TV subscriber total in the second quarter due to what the regulator CMT describes as “the end of a promotion”.
Data published by the CMT shows that at as of June 30 the number of mobile TV subscribers stood at 244,900. This contrasted with a figure of 638,340 only three months earlier and 498,530 at the end of 2010.
Otherwise there was little movement in the take-up of pay-TV services via other platforms: the number of DTH subscribers stood at 1,767,275 at the end of Q2 (1,785,905 three months earlier), cable 1,379,458 (1,376,364), IPTV 864,130 (866,360) and DTT 349,719 (366,812).
Interestingly, in terms of operating revenues excluding grants, DTT was in top spot in Q2 with €607.34 million, followed by DTH (€246.77 million), cable (€76.55 million), IPTV (54.09 million) and mobile TV (€3.3 million).
In the pay-TV sector, Sogecable (€246.80 million), Ono (€55.97 million) and Telefónica (€52.72 million) accounted for the lion’s share of total revenues (€417.90 million) in the second quarter.
