Petr Dvorak has been appointed the new head of the Czech public broadcaster Ceske Televize (CT).
Formerly the head of TV Nova, the country’s leading station, he is expected to implement far-reaching changes during his six-year term.
According to E15, they are likely to include the launch of a new children’s channel – CT3 – that will be carried on the first DTT multiplex, introduction of a new system of production centres, construction of new studios in the city of Brno and strengthening of regional broadcasting.
However, these changes will prove expensive – just launching CT3 and operating it is likely to cost CZK250 (€10.1 million) a year – and cutbacks can be expected in a number of areas, with the target being to reduce overheads by around CZK400 million in the next 2-3 years.
