The first broadcaster to adopt the Morega-NDS sideloading technology is likely to be US satcaster DirecTV, Broadband TV News understands.
DirecTV is currently in the process of building a Home Media Center product. The Morega-NDS solution, unveiled at IBC 2011, integrates Morega’s sideloading technology with the VideoGuard Connect DRM.
Using a separate device, the customer could then connect a tablet such as an iPad or Android unit, to their set-top box. The content is then securely transferred from the receiver, with any rights restrictions imposed on the broadcaster remaining intact.
Philip Poulidis, president and CEO of Morega Systems, said: “We believe that in the coming years consumers will expect media mobility to be a standard feature of any pay-TV package. This is a service that is in great demand from users but one that can be a challenge for operators since they have to guarantee they can protect premium content from the threat of file sharing.”
NDS aims to offer protection to many of the most popular devices including the PC, Mac, games consoles, iOS (iPad, iPhone) and Android mobile and tablet devices.
