Russia’s Sistema has suspended talks to buy a 50% stake in the Moscow-based MMDS operation Kosmos TV.
Quoting Sistema’s pesident Mikhail Shamolin, RBK Daily reports that its reasons for doing so were a lack of clarity with frequencies.
Sistema already owns 50% of Kosmos TV, with the remaining 50% being held by the Russian Television Broadcasting Network (RTRS).
Kosmos TV was established in the early 1990s but has seen its subscriber total slip to around 35,000 in Moscow and environs, or around 1% of the pay-TV market.
Its appeal to prospective buyers is that it owns frequencies in the 2.5-2.7 MHz range, which are suitable for LTE services.
