Telenor reorg to focus on innovation

September 14, 2011 10.05 Europe/London By Julian Clover

Telenor has announced a major reorganization aimed at delivering an always-on consumer experience. The Norwegian telco that has influences across the Nordic region, and beyond, says it is uniquely positioned in a future it expects to be dominated by smartphones and new devices communicating via high-speed networks.

A new Digital Services unit is being established, headed by executive vice president Kristin Skogen Lund. At 130 million mobile customers in 11 countries, Telenor believes it can increase the value it provides to its 130 million mobile customers in 11 countries. Telenor Group Industrial Development will be established and headed by EVP Hilde Tonne.

Berit Svendsen, currently CEO of security and conditional access business Conax, will head up the strategically important home market as EVP and CEO of Telenor Norway, reporting to the Telenor Group CEO. She replaces Ragnar Kårhus, who has been CEO of Telenor Norway since 2007.

Morten Solbakken, vice president and chief operating officer at Telenor Broadcast Holding AS and chairman of the Conax board of directors, will assume the temporary role of Acting Conax CEO from today.

“The organisational changes are designed to improve Telenor’s ability to innovate in and execute upon the vast opportunities and challenges we see emerge on the telecom horizon. Building on our core competencies and unique positions, we aim to further energize employees in the Telenor Group worldwide. As a company that is built around people, our strategic opportunity is to empower our employees to make a difference – in their local market as well as globally,” says Jon Fredrik Baksaas, president and CEO, Telenor Group.

Among Lund’s responsibilities will be the internet services company Comoyo that plans to offer a package of TV and communications services over the internet. He already has responsibility for Telenor Broadcast, which includes satellite services and the pay-TV platform Canal Digital.
