The Polish incumbent telco TPSA may acquire part of Aster’s cable network, which is now owned by UPC Polska.
Quoted in Parkiet, its president Maciej Witucki said that the company had been interested in buying the entire network – the competition authority UOKiK finally gave the go-ahead to its acquisition by UPC Polska earlier this week – but had been put off by the high cost involved.
Witucki added that France Telecom-backed TPSA currently has no plans to buy any other cable operator, including Multimedia Polska.
He was also critical of the different regulations that apply to TPSA and cable operators, making it difficult for the telco to compete with the latter in the provision of services.
