IFA 2011 – BERLIN. Vodafone Germany will start to roll out LTE in German urban areas, said CEO Friedrich Joussen at the company’s press conference in Berlin. Dusseldorf will be the first city where the service will trial.
The operator is also planning to bring its TV service over mobile broadband using the LTE frequency spectrum.
The operator also said it will add home networking functionality to its hybrid STBs, which now offer IPTV alongside satellite DTH reception. At the show, Vodafone is showing how its device can stream videos from a hard disk to tablets as well as show pictures from a mobile handset to the TV, using the DNLA standard.
Vodafone TV in Germany offers a basic bouquet of 60 channels and 15 HD channels as well as a VOD service. Since its launch, Vodafone TV attracted 40,000 customers.
