Cartoonito will commence its European rollout next Monday, September 5. The UK-originated service will be a fulltime channel in both Spain and Italy with a presence as a branded block in other markets.
In Spain Cartoonito will be available through Digital+, Ono, Imagenio, Orange TV, R and Euskaltel, while in Italy the channel has space on the country’s DTT platform.
The Turner-owned pre-school channel has announced its first pan-EMEA commission, The Ha! Ha! Hairies, produced by from Welsh Indie Adastra, makers of award-winning Grandpa in my Pocket. It will be produced in English and Welsh and has received investment funding from Finance Wales and support from the Welsh Assembly. S4C is the commissioning broadcaster in the Welsh language.
Turner has significantly upped the amount of locally commissioned content on its UK entertainment channels. Recent commissions include The Amazing World of Gumball and a Ben 10 based game show from UK indie Twenty Twenty called Ben 10: Ultimate Challenge.
Acquired content will include Bananas in Pyjamas from Endemol, Jelly Jamm from Vodka Capital and Baby Looney Tunes from Warner Bros Animation.
