The Polish public broadcaster TVP has revealed that it plans to launch 16 regional DTT channels by 2013.
Quoted in Wirtualne Media, its president Juliusz Braun said that they would cover the 16 voivodships (territories) that make up the country.
However, he also said that that their launch would be dependent on TVP’s method of funding being resolved within the next two years.
Although the public broadcaster currently operates a channel named TVP Info that includes four-hour regional slots, it has been interested in launching regional channels since 2008.
However, these would have operated on a metropolitan basis, serving large cities.
The commercial broadcaster TVN operated a metropolitan channel in the capital, Warsaw, which it closed earlier this year.
