IBC 2011. Hall 1. Stand No. 1.F36. Set-top-box chip giant STMicroelectronics is currently sampling its Generation-4 A/V decoder chip for set-top boxes and home media servers to key customers.
The new chip platform will be unveiled at IBC, and shown during private invitation-only demos. Full production is scheduled for 2012. The chipmaker claims ‘the increase in performance over existing chips is impressive’, however a corporate spokesman declined to provide further information as to the magnitude of any performance.
ST’s ‘Generation-4 A/V decoder chip’ also sports ‘an aggressive power management scheme’, and ‘supports value-added services such as state-of-the-art gaming, over the top (OTT) video, application stores, and secure high-definition streaming to all connected screens such as tablets, smartphones, PCs and TVs throughout the home’.
