Kabel eins launches HbbTV app

August 29, 2011 10.07 Europe/London By Julian Clover

IFA 2011 – BERLIN. ProSiebenSat.1 Digital has announced the launch of a full HbbTV service on its Kabel eins channel from September 1, 2011.

Exactly one year ago, the ProSiebenSat.1 group launched HbbTV services on its two main channels, ProSieben and Sat.1.

The HbbTV range of applications on Kabel eins consists of the same components as on Sat.1 and ProSieben: there is an HD-text service, including an electronic program guide (EPG) with preview trailers on the prime-time highlights, voting application and a video centre.

In addition, there is a weather application and a link to Germany’s largest video-on-demand service Maxdome, which is also owned by the group.

For the start on September 1, the design of the HD-text has been completely revamped. An up-date for ProSieben and Sat.1 HD-Tex will follow soon.

There will also be a channel specific application, called kabel eins kitchen, people will be able to watch videos and recipes on demand.

Lars Friedrichs, director Hybrid TV and teletext at ProSiebenSat.1 Digital, said in a statement: “Our learning from the past year, is that above all the video content of our HbbTV offerings is well received. So we will start a Kabel Eins Videocenter with over 1,200 clips, which we will continue to expand. ”
