Channel 4 has rebuilt the interface for accessing its 4oD catch-up TV service online. With 215 million long-form video views in the first half of 2011, Channel 4 remains the biggest commercial broadcaster in the UK VOD Market, still ahead of ITV, which has by far the greater amount of eyeballs for its linear channels.
New services include predictive search functionality and viewer driven recommendations. The new site will also allow registered users to sign in for enhanced features. These vary from the creation of personalized playlists or keeping track of viewing history. The recommendation engine includes the Amazon-like “People also watched”
Sarah Milton, Channel 4’s Head of VOD said: “Increasing the availability of 4oD on multiple platforms remains a key tenet of Channel 4’s strategy. Channel4.com is by far the most popular access point for 4oD and we are focused on developing and improving this proposition”.
Unlike other catch-up services in the UK, which draw on the last seven days output, 4oD also features some 5,000 hours of archive content.
