The Greek public broadcaster ERT is facing the prospect of losing three of its channels.
According to Ekathimerini and Balkans.com, the government has approved spending cuts that include the closure of ERT’s flagship channel ET1, along with its digital channels Cine Plus and Sport Plus, which were recently merged into a single operation.
However, the latter’s digital frequencies will be retained for future use.
Other changes include the transformation of another digital channel – Prisma Plus – into a service aimed at digital people and Thessaloniki-based ET3 into a regional service offering cultural, entertainment and sports programming.
ERT currently operates 10 channels, the others being Net, ERT HD, Vouli Tileorais, Info Plus and the satellite-delivered ERT World.
A final announcement on the changes at ERT is expected to be made today (August 19) by Ilias Mossialos, the country’s minister of state.
