The Dutch broadband market grew by 0.7% during the second quarter of of this year, reaching 6.29 million mass market (consumer + SOHO) connections on Jun, 30, according to Telecompaper’s quarterly update on the Dutch broadband market.
During the quarter, almost 41,000 net additions were recorded, more than 10,000 less than during the first quarter of 2011. The growth was driven by cable broadband and FTTH/B, offsetting a 0.7% decrease in DSL connections.
DSL ended the quarter with 3.32 million lines, followed by cable with 2.66 million after a quarterly growth of 1.6 percent or 42,000 net additions during the second quarter. FTTH/B broadband lines grew to around 269,000 on 30 June 2011, which represents a share of 4.3 percent on the Dutch broadband market.
At the same time, KPN had 28,700 VDSL (FTTC) customers and other ISPs had 1,600 VDSL (FTTC) customers, representing 0.5 percent of the broadband market. Internet from KPN was the largest broadband ISP in the Netherlands in the second quarter, with 29.1 percent of all subscribers.
Ziggo was number two with 25.5 percent, followed by UPC Netherlands with 14 percent and Tele2 Netherlands with 7.5 percent.
