Swedish transmission provider Teracom has reported an improvement in both income and operating earnings.
First half revenues increased to SEK 1,960 million (€212m) from SEK 1,880m as operating income of SEK 160m delivered profit of SEK 57m, returning the company to the black following a SEK9m loss.
Teracom says that its Swedish business remains stable, while activity in Denmark is growing, the result of the purchase of Broadcast Service Denmark (BSD) and growth in Boxer’s DTT operations in the country.
“The potential for pay-TV in Denmark is very high, but the investment is substantial before we can show a profit. Boxer Denmark has a steadily growing customer base and an increasingly strong position in the Danish market, says Crister Fritzson, president and CEO Teracom Group.
For the first time in many months, Teracom has published subscriber numbers on a per country basis. In Sweden numbers fell from 667,000 in Q2 2010 to 637,000 in Q2 2011. In Denmark, the fledgling business has moved from 54,000 to 80,000 subscribers. Finland’s PlusTV, an established business, is performing well. However, numbers fell from 243,000 to 234,000, largely due to sports-related seasonal factors.
